"The Cuban labour federation said more than a million workers would lose their jobs - half of them by March next year. Those laid off will be encouraged to become self-employed or join new private enterprises, on which some of the current restrictions will be eased. It is biggest shift to the private sector since the revolution in 1959."

Hmm - it seems the Cubans have discovered free enterprise and the market as the answer to some of their problems.

How reactionary our TUC seem in comparison - always fighting the last battle. They even dragged out Mrs Thatcher today!

"Our state cannot and should not continue maintaining companies, productive entities, services and budgeted sectors with bloated payrolls and losses that hurt the economy," the labour federation said in a statement.

Perhaps the next labour leader will take a cue from Cuba to appease the 'old guard' within their party? Funny old world. :lol:

FF junior's girlfriend is, like FF junior, a keen kayaker and both spend considerable periods of their spare time upside down in rivers of varying quality. They also frequent the National Whitewater Sports Centre in Nottingham, which is periodically closed because it is fed from the Trent and rainfall can sometimes cause, er, 'problems' with the upstream sewage treatment works

You might say the she's not so much kayaking as going through the motions.
