I agree - 3 terms in power for either side seems to be about the limit and then it all starts to unravel. I'd hoped in vain that the Lib Dems would help moderate the worst Tory excesses, however they seem pretty ineffective and I suspect that they will lose a lot of ground in the next election as a result of their entering a coalition.

Maybe the Belgians got it right!

Some of the latest polling has them down on just 7 seats. It won't be that bad, but it won't be pretty.

When you know you are down to apply for re-election after 4 years, it's very hard to put in place plans that will achieve the right result but will take many, many years. So we get lots of short-termism.

It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't keep goofing up the work we do to set up a longer-term plan for our futures.
