Paying rent doesn't give any right to steal or damage property and many tenants do just that.

There seem to be no limits with some people. Physical attack and campaigns of malice are all on the menu when some folk dont get their way, regardless of how unreasonable or immature their expectations may be.

if you walked out of a shop with items, is it petty youre required to pay for them?

If I was paying £700 a month for a product, yes it is petty that I should expect to pay for the small items. When was the last time you had to pay for a bottle of water at a car dealership for example?

I dont understand people who claim theyre owed things theyre clearly not, or even claim thiefing rights.

A business is free to give out free drinks if it wishes, but if it doesnt wish to and you go steal some there will be consequences. Its theft.

Are you seriously suggesting it is ok to charge £1 for a 5 year old cork cup mat (example) and then unreasonable for the tenant to expect to have a light bulb changed?

I've not said those things, but I do think its entirely unreasonable for a tenant to expect the landlord to change their light bulbs.

Would you also think a tenant who leaves a house in a mess, when the contract specifies its to be left clean, should for some reason not be charged the labour cost of cleaning it?
