I don't think you can blame the sheep - I think it's eating grass that makes them stupid.
When they're lambs drinking milk they're full of bounce, it's only once they're weened that they start acting like mobile pillows.
Same is true for calves - turn from inquisitive creatures to grass processing units.

It's the old debate - are cows, humans or sheep more intelligent...
If there is a blizzard blowing, do you turn your back on it and walk with it or do you face it and battle against it?

Apparently cows and humans will turn their backs and walk away from the blizzard but sheep will battle their way into it.
Cows and humans will end up beside a wall or barrier without any protection from the storm.
Sheep will also eventually come up against a barrier but they will meet the sheltered side of it ...

So which is more stupid?
(But I was told by a Welsh ex-sheep farmer so he may have been biased)

A farming friend once told me that he hated sheep with a vengeance because "they were too eager to die".

As for 'lovely milk', am I the only one who thinks milk is a completely unnatural foodstuff for grown adults. What other mammal ever drinks milk after weaning?

Asians (Japanese) think adults drinking milk is a bit distasteful, like the way we Westerners look a the African's (Masai?) who drink warm cow's blood. Maybe it's a learned reaction as so many Asians are lactose intolerant.

My husband, who's half Japanese, half white, can't handle any dairy, and has alchohol intolerence (Asian Flush) as well. So there's something to be said for the cast-iron stomachs of Northern European stock. True omnivores.

It's probably a good thing that I can outdrink Mike. It keeps the liquor bill reasonable and I always have a designated driver. The bad thing is that by the end of a night out, I don't look any better to him. Booze in a man does wonders for a woman's looks.

While I am the first to criticise an overt nanny state, I do find the responses here regarding tenants a little critical. In my days of renting as a young professional I have been charged for petty things like missing cup mats, dirty detergent drawers in washing machine etc. If a landlord is going to be that petty, they would certainly charge for mistakes during minor DIY, such as changing a light bulb. Therefore I think a tenant has every right to expect things to be done for them.

I expect most landlords on this forum are the exception to the norm, so my apologies, but there are as many unscrupulous landlords as there are rogue tenants.

My argument does however fall down when I hear of councils paying out stupid sums for minor repairs to council housing or whatever it is called these days. Personally I feel tenants in these properties should be treated differently to normal rental tenants - after all, they are not paying the full rental price. My bl**** tax money is making up the difference.

You are absolutely right of course - hence 2004 Housing Act

We get to deal with everyone being unreasonable on an almost daily basis as we are in property management - still we provide a valuable service as both Landlords and tenants can simply blame us when anything goes wrong - so that's alright isn't it?!

If I was paying £700 a month for a product, yes it is petty that I should expect to pay for the small items. When was the last time you had to pay for a bottle of water at a car dealership for example?

Are you seriously suggesting it is ok to charge £1 for a 5 year old cork cup mat (example) and then unreasonable for the tenant to expect to have a light bulb changed?

'Reasonableness' is a subjective thing. If everyone had the same views of reasonableness and fairness then contracts would never be necessary. In the real world, everyone is has a different view so the tenancy contract and the associated inventory is the method to clarify things and avoid such arguments.

A car dealership is quite at liberty to offer a bottle of complimentary water while your car is being serviced, but they are under no obligation to do so.

If you purchased, say, a £700 hi-fi system do you think it would be reasonable to help yourself to a music CD on the way out of the shop?

As for £1 for a cork coaster (for example), if it has to be replaced then someone has to spend time to find and buy a replacement and take it to the house in time for the next tenant. Frankly, I'd say that £1 for all that hassle is a bargain.

You haven't missed anything not being a landlord.
I would never choose to be a landlord again ever.
My experience of rogue tenants put me off for life.
That is not to say that I have not had some excellent tenants and most of them were very nice and we had a good relationship.
But the nicest person, when a tenant, can turn nasty at a whim.
Paying rent doesn't give any right to steal or damage property and many tenants do just that.
