I am no supporter of riots; a night of "payback" might seem like a good idea at the time, but it brings no long-term benefit to those who participate or to the area

"No supporter" = MIght sound like a good idea?? Does burning someone's shop down, destroying their livelihood count as "payback"?

"No long term benefits" = Well apart from the free TVs, trainers etc.

I can't seriously believe that there are people out there trying to link the wanton violence, theft and arson back to the police.

Engaging with the Met when you come from a place like Tottenham has risks. Not least that you will be seen as a snitch or a grass by some within the community. To overcome this I have tended to look at past police operations rather than ongoing investigations. This way I can advise the police on how to handle similar inquiries in future, in a way that might involve and empower communities so they become willing partners, instead of cynical onlookers.

It gets worse....

He wants communities to become willing partners...but is concerned that his duty does not extend to helping police when there is awareness of crime.

He signs a confidentiality agreement - which he graciously abides by...until he breaks it
He wants the IPCC to engage, but then refuses to engage (apparently because he is omnipotent and knows what happened and will occur in the meeting)

Basically, he appears to have completely prejudged the entire enquiry and would only have been happy if the Met confessed to murder, starting riots across the country and that the community were in no way to blame

The IPCC will determine the truth in the full course of time.

So now we know that we will not know what happened. There will be no inquest. There are multiple calls for a change in the law.

Interesting report on this on the Today programme this morning. Apparently there will be no inquest because of the law concerning keeping telephone intercept evidence - and, indeed, even whether it took place - a secret. But email intercepts, postal intercepts and other intercept evidence is not treated this way.

I really can't understand why even the act of telephone intercepts should be deemed to be sensitive.

I'd much rather have such things in the open than not knowing why it's ok for the police to shoot someone dead.
