I don't get anything done in the house. I decided to work part-time rather than full-time to get all the decorating and other jobs done - but I've done even less. I don't get much cleaning done either! I can't even find the time or energy to ring up people to come and do the work. I think a plan of action is needed - and delegation of jobs to partner and kids. After all, they create all the mess! :lol:

Except sleeping - that's such a waste.

I agree with you in principle, but I spend some days sleeping because I need them. I need 8 hours a night, but I only get 6 because of Chris' schedule. The alarm goes off at 5.50am. I'm rubbish at napping, so it all seems to save itself up into giant all day siestas from time to time.

Because I need so little sleep, each year of my life is at least 25% longer than the 8 hours a night person.
My friend was quite the opposite.
He was an artist who appreciated his dreams more so than his life.
He'd spend days in bed asleep.
He never could get things done so any work to bring in some cash was a trial for him.
When he did get work it was always something to do with a paint brush.. painting electricity pylons or factory chimney advertising or other often dangerous work.
His home was crowded with unfinished commissions, both artistic and artisan, that he never could bring himself to complete.
He died several years ago of a cancer he knew about but preferred to ignore hoping he was imagining things and that it might just go away.
One of the saddest things was being given back, after his death, a large wooden chest of mine that he had taken to decorate for me all of 25 years ago still only partly finished but with his skillful outlined designs all over it.
It was always going to be finished but never was.
Now it never will be.
...........not quite true as my wife used her artistic skills and finished the chest.
It took her a week.

Lime - what a poignant story! I have friends like that too, and very dear they are. Glad the chest was finished, there's a moral there somewhere but I'm not certain what it is. :?
What a wonderful quotation from a great lady. If only I could be content with my woodland garden, life would be much easier. But instead I have visions of knot gardens at one end and pigs at another - which, again, calls for unrealistic amounts of labour without staff.
My girl was amazing today, I love her already. She came to the cottage as a little girl as her father, who is now dead, was friends with the previous owner, so she was moved and happy to be here. She's very graceful, a trained dancer, young and beautiful and gentle in the way she does things - just as well Chris is at work! It's all so clean and tidy I can't sleep for excitement!
She got through a whole roll of kitchen paper though. She said "I don't like cloths - I just want those hairs and bits of dirt to be gone and in the bin." I was so grateful to her, and embarrassed, I didn't like to say anything about the environment!

This week I only had time to give the bathroom a thorough going over." I had told her the bathtub never comes white. When she left, I went in there and was almost blinded by its whiteness.

My daughter has now had a cleaner for a year or so, and her tip would always be that, each visit, you get her to give the whole house a quick whisk over, but give one room (a different one each time) a real blitz. She also tries to observe the rule that a cleaner shouldn't have to come to a clean house, but should have to come to a tidy one.JoceAndChris said:

I learnt all these when I was 6 or 7 and can remember them all 45 years later. Why did none of the more erudite stuff that I was forced to study stay with me?
