There were two obvious categories they didn't include:

12) Number of lives (dogs 1, cats 9). Winner: Cats (overall score 6-6)

13) Safety within families due to likelihood to kill small children and babies. Winner: Cats (overall score 7-6 to the cats).

One of the ladies who works for me took on her elderly neighbour's cat, even though she's not that keen on cats, when the old lady passed away. The cat was already 13 years old, so she didn't think it would be for long.

6 years on, said cat is still going strong. It has destroyed 2 sofas with scratching. It ignores a cat flap and a litter tray and prefers to cr@p in a plant pot. The lady in question is very houseproud. The cat in question has long hair and moults all year round. The lady's husband has asthma, which is aggravated by the cat. Oh, and it's cost her a small fortune in vets bills over those years.

She does look after it very well, but as she put it to me recently - "Why me? I've been nice to it, why won't the bl@@dy thing just die peacefully?"

this is my little fur ball , she is around 14 years old , has chronic asthma so she doesn't get around as much as she used to and this is one of the rare moments when she is actually awake , she must be hungry.

and for some reason , when she is content , she likes to stick her tongue out at you which can last anything from a few minutes to most of the day.

Like humans, if animals don't feel loved enough they misbehave. Animals only foul the house if they feel threatened. (except in the case of the un-neutered tomcat - and really they shouldn't live indoors)

People who have weeing/pooing cats inside need to a) identify underlying health problems and see if they can be sorted b) Find out what is stressing the cat and eliminate it.

Come on Lady A, don't be shy!! :lol: :twisted:

The problem I have with cats is that they come in my garden and defecate (and no, they don't bury it either) and they kill things - I've had a few birds found dead, a slow worm, plus several frogs. If cats or any other pets stayed on their owner's property and left mess / killed things then that's up to the owners.

I don't think it matters if you are a responsible cat owner or not, short of keeping them locked indoors you can't prevent that if you have immediate neighbours. If I took my dog into the neighbours garden and let it defecate then they would quite rightly object.

If you're in a house like Joce's (i.e. no neighbours very close by) then clearly it's much less likely to be a problem.

Dogs can also upset neighbours if they bark a lot - I've never let mine do that, but I have had neighbours that do and it's very annoying. Cats can also make a horrendous noise, we used to have 2 un-neutered toms nearby who loved a good early-morning screeching match (irresponsible owners - should have had them neutered). Fully accept the argument over dog mess in public places, that's irresponsible owners too.

Despite being a confirmed dog person, I actually quite like cats. I just don't like what cats do.

Well I don't like that I've had to spend £350 on electric fencing because of damned dogs breaking in and worrying, and killing, my hens, and they're lucky they weren't shot. That is another of my New Year's Resolutions - buy gun and learn how to use it. And I hate sharing our track with badly behaved dogs (which is 90% of them) and the ensuing mess.

Lion poo can be purchased to prevent unwanted cat poo in the garden*, I'm sure most cat owners would be only to happy to pacify, unlike most dog owners who seem to think that foul jumping defecating dogs are a pleasant experience for others.

I will come off the fence and say that I am in Joce's camp on this issue.

London dogs with irresponsible owners, of which there are plenty, leave piles of ordure all over the pavements which is disgusting. Prodigious quantities used to be dumped daily just outside our gate but thankfully this has now stoppped. At least the cats make some effort to crap in the flowerbeds or somewhere you are less likely to tread in your best New & Lingwoods. My wife is not keen on animals of any kind in the house so we dont have pets ourselves, but I was brought up with cats and the boys would have a cat if they had the option.

If there is anything close to getting dog turd on your shoe it is chewing gum. Mastictors of this disgusting substance who do not excrete their waste products responsibly should be hunted down like dogs and .....I feel my blood pressure rising so I had better stop here.
