One of life's disappointments was when the Cross Keys at Aldeburgh ceased to sell Adnams from barrels with taps on, lined up behind the bar.

It's a while since I lived in Suffolk, but I'm still fond of the silly place. I moved to Lowestoft in 1979 and then just outside (to Oulton) for a couple of years, before moving dahn sarf to Hertfordshire in 1984. I still have friends there, though, and stil have many happy memories of wildfowling at Benacre, the Maltings proms, all-night music sessions in the Geldeston Locks, lost nights at the Low House and hunting and smoking coypu, to name but a few pastimes with good company.

Blimey! I've lived here on and off for the majority of my "adult" Life (my wife insists on the inverted commas). It seems I've hardly scratched the surface. Ent never smooked a coypoo in moy loife.

However, we seem to have certain parallels. My musical haunts were many, but mainly the back room of the Monk & Compasses at Holbrook, gigging with Ken Sykora and his trio, and his gorgeous wife, Helen.

I was rubbing sandpaper over the tops of some brass countersunk slotted screws so that they meld into the wood like butter on a warm crumpet and thought 'you just couldn't do that with the cross headed nonsense'.
