If you make it into a paste and leave it on (cover it so it does not dry out) the paint softens and can be removed relatively easily.
When I buy an old fitting (door knob or knocker for example) I place them in a saucepan in water with dishwasher powder in it and bring it to the boil.
Old paint floats off.
My wife sounds off.
If people aren't supposed to ask advice, then how does anybody ever learn anything?daubdolly said:if you have to asked detailed questions about 'how to do something' in your period home, then you shouldn't be doing the job in the first place
Sounds very much like Mrs FF, who grew up in a household where it was quite normal to have a lathe and milling machine in the sitting room that her Father used when building powerboat racing engines. Ruining the carpet wasn't a problem, though, because that had already been removed and placed in the bottom of the water jump so that teenage Mrs FF's horse wouldn't slip when practicing her show jumping. Against such a splendid upbringing my foibles are minor by comparison and rarely cause any consternation in the FF household.Feltwell said:Mrs F is very tolerant, she didn't bat an eyelid when she found some bearings in the freezer yesterday.

I have looked at a similar system called peel away 7... Has anyone used it?

Ah, a fine choice. I confess to the same aspiration.Feltwell said:Or maybe a nice Austin Healy 3000 (if I happen to win the lottery or a hitherto unknown fabulously rich and childless Uncle pops his clogs).
Indeed (sigh).Feltwell said:Ahh, so many toys, so little time and even less money.......
