PPUK party

Hi all
Inspired by Joce's lovely do last year, we are hosting a party in Witney on Saturday 11 June from 2pm till late. All welcome!

Feel free to wear period costume (but not obligatory of course!) - there's plenty of parking round the back of our house so don't worry you don't have to walk through the centre of Witney in your finery! If anyone is arriving by horse and carriage, I'll open the big gates :lol:

We might have a bit of a 17th century theme to suit the house but not sure yet what that will be, possibly in terms of food and drink, certainly my costume

Please PM me for the address, directions, advice on hotels etc.

Lots to do locally if you're making a weekend of it - Witney is a bustling market town (famous for its blankets!) and we now have a couple of very reasonable second-hand/antique shops and a great ironmongery/F&B paint shop at the top of the road. National Trust properties nearby - Chastleton House (but limited opening) and Buscot are the nearest (30 mins away). Also Hidcote and Snowshill and others all within an hour or so. Lovely Cotswold villages and of course Oxford.

I love the area, it will be nice to revisit it and, more importantly, to have a good look round your lovely house and see all your hard work with decorating and gardening. Be warned - put a lock on your wardrobe door!

What a lovely idea for another get together. I fear I will have to miss this one as well I'm heading back to tropical climes tomorrow and not sure when my next trip over will be, maybe July or August. As always I leave having generated more projects for "next time" although this trip did take decorating a couple of significant steps in the right direction. There are now curtains in the living room ( recycled and adjusted ones from another place we lived rather briefly ) and carpets. Some pictures with spaces assigned, but not installed, and various kitchen appliances that were needed. I am toying with the idea of having a Jane Austenesque frock made against such time as I can eventually come to a party though, much easier and cheaper to have someone do that for me in Singapore.

To distract myself from my hangover (Mr Juju's birthday yesterday so a few drinks were in order) and the fact that I have a whole day ahead of marking exam papers, I thought I would remind people of this important event. Only just over a month away!

We have made some progress on the house and garden but given that Mr Juju's daughter is having a party here next week for her 16th birthday involving 20 marauding teenagers, I'm not sure what state the place will be left in! (we will be here of course monitoring their behaviour and Mr Juju has threatened to put a walking stick between boys and girls dancing too closely as happened at his school discos in the 1970s)

Anyway, please confirm by PM at some point if you're coming to our party - one PPUKer has already booked her hotel, now that is very organised! There will be food, drink, music, hopefully reclining in the garden, lively conversation on suitable period property topics and poking around our house to inspect the cement render, damp, suspect joists in the cellar (no dancing in the room above please!), etc etc. Oh and if anyone is driving down/up/across the day before and wants a lovely afternoon out at a unique National Trust property please come and visit me at CH (details via PM) where I will be doing my usual volunteer gardening and garden tours on Friday afternoon!

You're probably too young to remember Peter Sellers' album called "Songs For Swinging Sellers". One of the sketches features the parents of a prospective pupil interviewing the headmaster of a private co-ed school.

Father: "And how do you segregate the sexes?"

Headmaster: "If necessary I take a crowbar and I prise them apart."

Thank you JuJu for the very kind invite, but Mrs FW and I are already hosting a BBQ party on Sat 11th for a number of my work colleagues. Sadly this was booked early in the year, before we knew we'd have two social events in 2011 :shock:
