Actually Lady A there's nothing wrong with Ryanair. We just like to moan about them. Mrs DJH is flying back to the UK from Dublin to Bristol for €35 (about £27!) return. I can't drive her to the airport for that money so she uses her bus pass (shhh!) and goes free and I get to go nightclubbing for a week while she's away...

I've used Ryanair many dozens of times, and they have always been absolutely fine. I only ever take just cabin baggage, and the flights have always been on time, clean modern planes, and the staff polite. If you think of it as a cheap and reliable means of transport then you will be fine. If you think you are going to get the luxury of Pan Am from the 1960's then you will be sadly disappointed!

I agree. Their customer service is pretty well non-existent and their flights aren't particularly comfortable, but - as the old saying goes - never mind the quality, look at the price. If you just regard a Ryanair flight as a bus, you can't fault the value-for-money.

If they could just get Michael O'Leary to button his lip their PR would improve no end!

Nah, you're wrong there Penners. Ryanair has a new friendly face don't you know. We've had Michael on the TV over here doing a commercial explaining how friendly they are now with his friendly (rictus) grin in place. And (yes I know!) their commercials boast about how you can now book your seat number in advance and take an extra bag on board as hand luggage (much to the delight of the airport shops) as if it was an earth shattering innovation!!

Mrs DJH won't hear a word said against them but she does find it disconcerting when cabin crew smile at her... :shock:

Well they don't fly to Singapore, so I shall stick with Singapore Airlines. His Lordship uses them a lot so I get well looked after. They didn't bat a eye when I checked in with nearly 50Kg to go to Sydney.

Not wishing to interrupt the discussion on Ryan air at all ( they are the spawn of Satan), but Doug, those planters are in every garden centre and made of the horrible fibrous plasticcy faux lead stuff that must be an insult in your presence. I'm sorry.

It wasn't that I didn't want real lead ones but just that when I bought those ligustrum jonandrums I envisaged them outgrowing their pots and getting planted in earth. Ha. How naive that seems now I know they need wheeling in in winter, rotating so all their leaves get sun drenched, fertilising weekly and shaping and watering virtually every day. Don't ever buy ligustrum jonandrums. IF they are still alive when those terrible plastic pots break apart, which I highly doubt, I would like proper lead planters as I know now they cannot endure a single night of frost.

And apropos of nothing, but because I am still pleased with works, here's father teaching son historic plastering and a trial "T" from today.

I made a T by printing it out on card and cutting it into a stencil with my trusty Victorian needlework scissors (they're tiny and ideal for miniscule cutting). He used that stencil and and some sort of pointy tool from a toolbox that also looked like it had been sent from 1850.
