Blimey MdB, to think I complain about having to put a new roof on our place!

Did you know when you bought it that much work was required? Needless to say the "after" looks like a big improvement.

Gareth, I've got a real soft spot for terraces like that, having lived in a few over the years. Plenty round here from the mining days of the East Shropshire coal field, sadly most have been UPVC'd now.

Did you know when you bought it that much work was required?

We knew the front wall needed work and had a builder quote at £5k to £9k to fix what was visibly wrong. Once we were in and able to make holes in things to find out how it was constructed we found it was a lot worse than we had imagined. Budget at the moment is around £50k though we are also making a lot of improvements in the process.

Thanks Jon. Edge of the Cotswolds really - Charlbury, between Chipping Norton and Witney. The barber's rent meant that I could afford the mortgage, but it's quite fun listening to the banter coming up through the floorboards on a Saturday morning. Shame I'm not a bloke, or I could have had haircuts on the house in the house, as it were.

The Cotswold tiles gave it away up the narrow bit of roof ! Although they are the same as the stone tiles in this area too just more of them there.

I bet the conversations are amusing, do barbers still ask the question"anything for the weekend ,sir?". Mine certainly does not!

Dust, dust and two nosy dogs. Did I mention the dust?
The floor is heated so it's nice and cosy which was a good thing when the water froze in the caravan and we had move back into the house in a rush.
The bathroom needs a few more tiles and a cupboard built but it basically now complete which means we can move on to the first bedroom. It just requires all the walls and the ceiling replastering, a new floor fitting and then a coat of paint. We can then sleep in a proper bed. Very much looking forward to it.

So spent the entire night unable to sleep coz wanted to look at houses and now Dad's here to take me on an all day driving lesson.

Alison - we lived in Swerford for 13 years, until about 5 years ago when I retired from my job in Witney. Lovely area!
