I don't have any really early ones as everything truly "vintage" ended up in storage in 1995. This had survived because it was in a picture frame. I wasn't sure of the date, but knew it was taken on the day of the inaugural run of the Eastern & Oriental Express from Singapore to Bangkok. I wasn't a passenger, but a friend and I happened to be meeting for a casual lunch at the Oriental Hotel at exactly the same time they were all arriving to check in. The elephant had been arranged to meet them, but because they were people who had only seen elephants in zoos or parks and behind big fences they wouldn't go and have pictures taken. The mahout was very keen to show it was not a dangerous wild animal and I was happy to help, luckily my buddy was one who always carried a camera even in those pre digital days and so I got a momento. Mr Google tells me it would have been 1993.

I'm enjoying this bit of time travel, and coveting Joce's dress ( what a beautiful picture that was ! ).

Great photos though, especially Juju's wonderful Victorian outfits. I should have known Milady would manage something with elephants, though I confess that trainers hadn't figured in my mental image. Is Gareth related to Fred Dibnah perchance? :wink:

Oh and here I am circa 1972. I've cropped it as the whole Juju family dressed in full 1970s attire is too much to cope with - too many clashing patterns and big collars. Note my stylish brown dress and trendy feather cut. I'm not sure if the blob next to my eye is a mark on the photo or if it's when I'd had an accident which involved me skidding along the pavement on my face. The day after my accident, I had a check up for my hearing and the nurse kept glaring at my mum and asking how I'd hurt myself. I'm surprised they didn't send the social workers round...
