Hope his outbuilding has survived the wind OK. If that got under the roof that could have done some serious damage.
It's been pretty blowy here - I was driving through mid-Wales at 6am this morning, 50mph down a deserted & dark A-road, when I suddenly spotted a telegraph pole laying across the road in front of me. That woke me up and proved that the brakes work I can tell you!

Penners, as someone in the finest of fettle I know you will be unfamiliar with the strains in that picture, but it really could be dangerous for one's back, you know. :wink:
Well the latest set of winds has not caused any more problems, but I have never known wind like last night. We are used to horizontal sleet driving up the valley 9 months of the year, but I was actually scared last night lying in bed listening to it. I fully exepcted the main roof of the house to lift off a few times. :shock:
Thankfully though, other than depositing the 16foot metal trampline 30 yards away form where it was anchored, nothing else has been lost.
The loss adjuster visits tomorrow, but I am not holding out any hope at all. We knew we had to inform the insurance company of the change to the building, and it was almost a preset train of events that a loss adjuster would be sent to assess if a payout for an insurable peril was in order.
I braved the interior of the building and cleared out the workshop below the collapse during the week. My friendly period builder and his scaffolder viewed today, and a "birdcage" will be constructed internally on Monday to support the roof. This will prevent any further spread of the roof below the purlins - which despite there being horizontal roof ties in place, is a bit of a risk. The scaffold will also allow the taking down and rebuilding of the outer wall, gable end and internal supporting wall. Quotes are in the pipeline for this - we'll be doing the right hand end of the building with its wonky roof at the same time.

I don't think I'd want to try using a metal trampoline. It must be extremely difficult to get any bounce out of it. Imagine the damage to your back.FamilyWiggs said:

He stepped gingerly thorugh the mud, surveyed the 10 ton of masonry on the floor, and said in masterly understatement and with no hint of irony "Well, that didn't blow down did it?"
It was hard to disagree. :wink:
Since he "couldn't put this one in a box" it was difficult to identify it as an "insurable peril"
I'm still awaiting the official feedback... :roll:
I'll post some pics of the scaffolding that has gone up.
Meanwhile the quotes are flooding in... and in excess of £20k including some other roof works and internal joists/floors. Rebuilding the frontwall, tying in and rebuilding some of the cross wall, is coming in at just over £10k for circa 45m2 of wall which will also incorporate a number of window openings. Masonry is on site :twisted: (but some still dismantling needed 8) ) and 2.5NHL lime specified.
Does 10k sound about right for this bit of the works?
