Period News about our lovely Middi

Joce has had a message from Flyfisher to say Middi is in a coma, having suffering a brain aneurism whilst on holiday in the States. He is in intensive care in America but will be flown home to the UK this weekend, and will go straight into a hospital able to care for his needs.

His daughter has said "Please feel free to tell his friends at Period Property to send me an email and I would be happy to read it out to him in the hospital. We truly believe he can hear us, and are trying different ways to stimulate / kick start his brain back into gear. I'm sure reading messages to him from his friends (he loves a bit of humour too) telling dad of their recent exploits would be very good for dad indeed."

I have her e.mail address and obviously don't want to post it in open forum, but will happily pass it along to anyone by PM if they contact me.

Joce and I had already told a few people privately, but were waiting to hear from Adriana ( Middi's daughter ) that she was happy for a notice to be posted generally, and early today I heard back from her.

Just heard from his daughter that he's due back to the UK tonight. A bit of gentle mickey-taking on your messages to him is fine - I (tentatively!) did that on my message that I emailed to her earlier, as well as checking with her that the humour is not inappropriate, and she's confirmed he'd love that.

Many of you will know how instrumental Middi was in our decision to take on our project and it's no exaggeration to say that I wouldn't have made nearly as much progress over the past few years without his freely given advice and expertise, not just on this forum but during his many visits where he has shown that his knowledge is far from just theoretical and he is just as capable of crawling around and repairing a roof as anyone. I've lost count of the times that Middi has visited us as well as the times I've 'popped in' to his house to discuss some little thing, only to spend hours discussing and laughing about all things period property as well as our other common interest of fishing, which at least I was able to offer in return, using our ponds.



His door was always open to anyone who needed help with a restoration problem and our house has certainly been a beneficiary.

But, as we still have lots to do, I've sent his daughter a stern email to read out to him and tell him to get well soon because my list of things I need his help with is starting to build up again now that the 'summer season' is fast approaching.

Thanks so much for those photos, Mike. There must be a lot of people here who, though they enjoy Middi's posts, haven't had the pleasure of meeting him, so it must be good to be able to put a face to the name.

I'm so sorry to hear this sad news. I don't know Middi - and seeing the photos has helped put a face to a name. But I wish him and his family all the very best of thoughts coming from me.

Oh my God how awful. Poor middi. How suddenly such tragic things can happen. He's been so much help with his advice on this forum, I do hope he recovers from this devastating illness.

Thanks for posting those pictures Flyfisher. I've never met Middi, so it is nice to see a face. I hope by now he is safely back in the UK, and can get busy getting well. We need him back, otherwise people will start using the excuse that they can't get on with their projects because they are not sure if they are doing the right thing. Heaven knows there is enough procrastination with tea and biscuits here already.

Poor poor Middi, what an awful thing to happen. I met him in 2010 and he was utterly charming and fun, as well as extremely knowledgable and a highly skilled craftsman. How nice of him to share that and yes, we need more please, even if he does think my chickens need turning into soup! Love to Middi and all positive thoughts for his recovery xxx
