Period log store?!

We have a 40Kw stove that heats 1000 litres of water to give us our central heating and hot water.
Jo has a wood burner in her office and there is a fire in our bedroom.
We work from home, so heating is one all day, everyday.

We burn a lot of logs!!!

One reason I bought my own wood (very small forest)

We had two telegraph poles. Both carried power to the house and one carried the telephone. EDS first buried the power cables and obviously had to leave the telephone pole, but they asked me if I wanted the other one removed, which I declined and they were quite happy to leave it. I then called BT to have the telephone cable buried and they asked the same. So my limited experience is that they're quite happy to leave them in place. However, it was a tricky job to pull them out and I couldn't have done it without the hydraulic lift arms of the tractor!

I've seen telegraph poles on sale for around £50, but transport is something of a problem and can make delivery quite expensive.

I use a commercial splitter by proxy. That is, the log supplier 200 yds up the road, from whom I buy my logs, has a big hydraulic splitter.

Half and half for me - a DIY log splitter powered by tractor hydraulics. My axe workouts only extend to preparing kindling.

I use a period Fireman's Axe (1940's LFB issue) - lighter than a maul but more wedge shaped than a felling axe. And a wood grenade/10lb hammer combination for the really knarly bits...

I am ashamed to admit that whilst I had a broken neck last summer, my mother split my entire year's supply of firewood for me with an axe.

Age is all in the mind of course, although my knees increasingly seem to ignore my mind these days.

I mainly use an hydraulic splitter these days, but still use an axe on some of the smaller pieces of wood. As our fire can take 24" logs a splitter is much easier work than an axe!!

:lol: but I don't think it's a chemically-induced problem. They were fine before I spent a couple of years crawling around and kneeling down on roofs. In fact they're fine most of the time, until I kneel down and they show a marked reluctance to straighten up again.
