Wouldn't it rather depend on the type of cat and it's coefficient of friction? a wet long haired cat probably slides better than a short haired fluffy dry one, Joce would most likely know, or failing that I expect Mr P would be happy to perform some experiments :lol:

I believe you're right LadyA, and many a period property which was constructed to work perfectly well with the short-haired cats common at the time, suffers terrible consequences when in their ignorance, owners introduce modern, long-haired cats.

While we're talking about garish colours, here's some competition.
The white areas will be behind the kitchen units, which is being fitted next week.

I like that - rather a lot actually - but I bet you were having second thoughts whilst you were doing the painting!

I always have a crisis of conscience when decorating in a bold colour.....

I like that. I'm no expert on colour, but it's a very warm colour, and seems to complement the old timber.

But I think we can live with it. I should really have posted a daylight photo but the kitchen fitters are here tomorrow and I wasn't sure if I'd get the chance. I'll try to sneak another photo first thing in the morning.

Meanwhile, the new boiler stove won't be delivered until January and the gas boiler probably won't be working before Christmas either. Still, at least we have an open fire . . . . or so I thought. I did the annual clean up last week, sealed all the gaps in the fire bricks with fire cement and then lit a nice fire and everything was hunky dory . . . . until I went out into the new kitchen extension. The extension that encloses the original 'exterior' chimney stack, the chimney stack that is now inside the new kitchen.

Well, it seems that the chimney stack is somewhat 'breathable' when it comes to smoke. Not a problem when the brickwork was external to the house but somewhat inconvenient now that it has been largely enclosed! So I'm now faced with having the chimney lined, which is going to be a rather more difficult (and therefore expensive) job than it would have been if I'd done it when the top of the chimney was repaired during the extension works.

I suppose there must be an end somewhere, but it doesn't seem to be in sight at the moment!

I bet you don't dust underneath wardrobes, either. :?

I like the colour very much and think it was a good choice warm and cosy and lovely for Christmas and winter. How annoying about the smoking chimney!!!

My excuse in this instance is that I was conserving paint as I wasn't sure I'd have enough for two coats without buying another tin.

Given a choice of a round trip to Norwich or Bury St Edmunds to get another tin of paint mixed or not painting behind kitchen units then the parsimonious approach is fine by me.

Alas, I have no such excuse for the slovenliness. :lol:
