Our household has a slightly different division of labour.

Me:
Decorating & DIY
Sewing
Garden
Acquiring things we dont need
Net creator of mess & chaos
Cooking (50%)
Ironing (only my own)
Food shopping
Dreaming

My wife:
Dealing with the domestics (cleaner, nanny)
Organising the diary, holidays, kids and practically everything else
Disposing of things we dont need
Net reducer of mess & chaos
Cooking (50%)
Laundry
Ironing (everyone else's)
Trying to keep me down to earth

That's a very sensible approach, Penners. Division of labour means that areas of expertise should be evenly divided between you and Mrs P.

No, I'm sorry Joss, but Moo's right. It's all a matter of horses for courses. Not very "new man" or PC perhaps, but it works for us.

In my own defence, I should add that I am currently adding to domestic duties a comprehensive list that includes, cook, housekeeper, bottle-washer, upstairs maid, tweenie, laundryman... etc., the Lady Of The House being incapacitated by recent surgery. But my level of competence in these tasks lies somewhere between crap and abysmal.

Those PPUKers who haven't met her must take my word for it that Mrs P is a pearl beyond price and should be cherished as such. And not allowed to do too much too soon.

It was partially a " scherzo " Penners, Mrs M had been poorly for a quite a while but thank goodness she apperears to be well on the road to recovery.

Finally finished them

Well done, they're really beautiful. The pleats look amazing. You should be very proud of your work there!

I like the time frame too, over a year from the planning to the completion. You can easily see how it could take 20 years to get a house to a very high standard, as yours is.

What is the next project ?.

My sister wants me to finish overhauling her grandfather clock mechanism (currently fully dismantled for cleaning and sitting in a box) and my wife wants me to focus on kids' bedrooms and the bathrooms. Apart from wanting to keep my family happy, I feel I should be getting on with the shades for the table lamps in my drawing room (in the same yellow silk as the curtains) but what I really want to have a go at now is some tailoring.

I have in mind a pair of trousers like this:

made like a proper bespoke tailor would (ie by drawing the pattern with chalk straight onto the cloth, based on one's own measurements and set of drafting rules).

I have already bought some beautiful worsted cloth from Dugdale Bros, who still weave it in Huddersfield.

Those curtains are amazing. I'm sorry to have to tell you though, there is no time for frippery! there is an election!

Knowing your capabilities, Nigel, this may be a case of teaching granny how to suck eggs, but - you will have a trial run in calico, won't you? I just hate the thought of you making a mistake with that precious fabric.
