Ok its holiday weekend whats happening at your place

for me its getting ready with a snagging list which leads up to the carpets to be fitted on Monday. One major issue is the porch, l want to paint the concrete step. The previous owner was not a tidy painter and there is too much spillage, and nothing seems to remove it. Main issue is that a pair of swallows have decided to nest above this, l have removed the nest twice, and they are still coming back, even though there are plenty of other suitable places, so it looks like l will not be painting the step for a while. l am also demoing woodturning at the village gala

Mine is to hopefully finish boarding the landing, finish the outside fencing then make a start on the upstairs bathroom! Roll on mid-June when the plumbing will be completed as I can then get the decorating and snagging done. Would love to be moved in by end of July.

I shall be repairing a castle.

It has fallen into a state of considerable dilapidation, after sustaining years of attacks by dragons, knights, cowboys, orcs, monsters and sundry other inimical species. But none of these has been anything like as destructive as three grandsons.

If I can reinforce it against them, I shall have done well.

Turfing this weekend if the weather allows. There was a big circle under the Cyprus tree where nothing but weeds would grow. With the Cyprus replaced by strawberries we're going to try grass. There is another patch to do that was previously concrete slab.

I shall be playing on a castle. Not quite period but completed last holiday weekend. Hopefully it'll last for the grandchildren... a few years yet

We are tackling the left drawing room window - this is number 4 out of around 10 ( there are other windows we'd just like to replace). We've taken it out, sanded and painted the sashes, routed grooves, fitted brush slides, new parting beads, new pulleys, new sash cord, cleaning up weights and weight housing, sanding the frame, then to splice in pieces for extensive rot in the sill. 4 days work really, for one window. I'm painting them Little Greene's Invisible Green and they're looking good!

Hi Joce, I really like Little Green's colours, but the paint on my windows didn't last 2 years. It was generally ok, but where the paint went over the putty line onto the glass as it should, it started to lift and peel. I have a hunch that if I had only painted one layer over onto the glass the paint might have lasted a little longer, but I could be more carefree with dulux and didn't have those problems.

We were looking at invisible green for our window refurb job, what did you use as your primer?

Could the putty problem simply be down to moisture content? The reviews out there seem quite good even on the professional forums.

I can't believe you didn't preserve the polystyrene ceiling tiles............

Zebra, you're making great progress there, you've been roughing it in that house for so long it must be great to see it coming together so well now.

Just on the Invisible Green by Little Green - the windows had a very good sand and I good coat of Dulux Primer exterior and interior.

Then 3 coats of the Invisible Green - I chose the exterior oil finish. I'll be very surprised if it fails in two years , just as I am surprised when I read people's exterior FnB has failed very quickly - mine is looking pretty good after 5 yrs on sheds, fences and doors.

Windows are recessed here so quite sheltered and I got rid of the window cleaner who used the hose system, and found one who uses a well wrung out cloth and bucket. I'm sure the Invisible Green will need a touch up here and there in 5 years but all windows are very easy to reach here so not too hard a job.

Joce, my paint hasn't generally failed, it generally looks good, and on any surface with no breaks in it such as a door or window frame it has been fine, but where the paint bridges between putty and glass it has lifted. I shall be interested to see if yours does the same.
