Well, it's happened! We exchanged contracts on Thursday afternoon, and celebrated with our house's new caretaker over a glass or two of bubbly. And then we went next door to introduce her to her new neighbours and sample some of James's rather splendid wine. A very jolly time was had by all.
We spent yesterday exploring our London house and doing even more measuring and hatching of plots. It was a lovely sunny day, and even John began to get a bit excited at the prospect of a Project (the cellar looks as though it's going to be interesting....).
Only two weeks to go now, and we're still sorting out those darned books. Apparently our auction house has monthly book auctions, so we're ploughing through the piles destined to be jettisoned, roughly sorting them into topics, and tying them up with string. It's surprisingly exhausting. To give you some idea of what's involved - John did some rough measuring and calculations this morning and worked out that we're getting rid of just over a thousand books. Which means that we're going to have to construct shelving in our new house for about two thousand.
I think I need another cup of tea.
