They get your old one.

Agreed......some people are just not decent. Drifting off thread here, but our son and his GF recently saved the life of a neighbour (or rather the existence of their newly constructed sunroom roof did :roll: ) when he came crashing through from a window of the flat three floors above in their Georgian building. The paramedics even suggested a nice gesture would be to buy our son's GF (who, being home alone at the time raised the alarm) a bouquet to say thank you......

Despite now being on the road to recovery - although he won't be able to work for some time as he suffered serious injuries - he has failed to so much as offer to cover the cost of the (second) new roof they had to install

Back on topic, my grump is that having been unable to paint outside recently due to the vast quantities of rain/drizzle, it's now too hot/sunny for external painting......grrrrr!

Although if one is using linseed paint, it positively enjoys being applied in hot sun.
And it's supposed to last a lot longer than modern paints, thus obviating the grump of having to repaint. If you defer your painting for five years or so, I'll give you a progress report on my Allbacked garage doors then you can decide which paint to use. No point in rushing these things.

Now you're talking my language. Deferment is one of my greatest skills - particularly when it comes to repainting window frames.

In a few years time, if I suggest I was thinking about renovating 5 sash windows and a few casements, organising building work & joiners, and two fire places to be replaced complete with stoves, all in one year, while fitting in child care and full time work - shoot me.

Scaffold. I need scaffold to change a chimney pot. The replacement weighs c100lb, I don't have 100lb muscles.

Arrange with a local scaffolder recommended by a neighbour. Came to quote.
Asked them through their website to go ahead. A week, nothing. Telephoned:" Uhh, could do it Thursday. Be there at 0830h".
Thursday. 0830h, 0930h, 1300h, nothing.
Telephone: "Uhhh, could do it tomorrow. 1100h". Not a word of 'sorry'.
Friday. 1100h, nothing. No call no nothing.

Call two other scaffolders. Supposed to come and quote. Booked a day. Yesterday. One did. And one didn't.
