It's raining AGAIN so I can't get on with my next sash window

Now it's raining again and so I have once again had to suspend work on this year's second sash window. Mind you, it would also help if paint dried more quickly... I really do think we have had a lot more than our share of rain in June this year.

On the bright side, I have swifts nesting under my eaves (in a box I put up three years ago), there's a hedgehog living in my garden and I just counted eleven starling fledglings competing for the bird food.

I'm currently doing 5 sash windows, a large back window, and a small toilet window. And its forecast rain on Saturday.

I thought this area was meant to be one of the driest parts of the country?

Sorry Matthew, but you're mixing up long- and short-term memory. When short-term faculties start to fade ("have I had my tea?"), long-term memories remain crystal clear. And I've been partial to KitKats for well over half a century!

So having spent a fortune on R50 ecomortar and breathable paint for renovating/redecorating bedrooms. I ask the decorator how the plaster is going on (there is a mix on the wall of old patched gypsum and lime) he says "I put some bonding agent on to dampen down the dust and it seems to be OK".

But before you did this it might have been appropriate to wrap him entirely in clingfilm, and ask how he likes it.

I've been digging for days. Shifting all the soil in the garden, and actually sieving it all into new raised beds. I'm knackered.

Keep going, Zebra! Tiredness is actually very good for you. It gives you an excuse to sit down at the end of the day with an enormous glass of wine.


PS: I recommend a rich-but-understated Louis Latour Pinot Noir as the perfect accompaniment to a KitKat.

Batteries fail at night because they tend to be colder then.

My grump today is I've taken on 18 months work partly based overseas. Work on the house is slower than normal, but feeling flush I have ordered some nice new wooden sash windows to replace the nasty 1996 mock sash efforts so not all bad.

So... new job, feeling flush, new windows.... doesn't sound like much of a grump to me.

It's too much like work. I prefer retirement, but it doesn't pay quite so well.
