Interestingly, a friend (who took the pic) was in a junk shop not long after, and came across an early 20th c pic of couple in very similar pose, beside a very similar cottage, with a very similar seat.
She was even wearing a hat like mine! ( I was being posh - had been to Glyndebourne the night before and still affected by delusions of grandeur.) Rather spooky.
