Queen Hippolota and Queen Boediacea and three others! If you can think of any other good classical names let me know.

Clytemnestra - another queen, who murdered her husband in his bath with an axe.
Medea - another queen and sorceress, who killed her ex-husband's new fiance by sending her a poisoned robe, causing her to die in agony, also killing the woman's father when he tried to save her. Then Medea killed her own children to get at said husband, and finally escaped in a flying chariot drawn by dragons. A good example for a chicken to live up to.

And perhaps more appropriately Atalanta, who is chiefly famous for running very fast.

Edited afterthought:
If you called one of them Medea, you could occasionally put a special treat in her feed, and say "Have some Madeira, Medea"

Hmm, you may be right - I'd better think of some classical boys' names too as even I might be embarassed shouting "Hraesvelg" in front of the walkers and wastrels who come to gawp at my chickens on sunny afternoons.

You're doing that deliberately, which is to be admired. I however have a deeply pretentious relative who decided without a trace of irony to call his dogs Patience and Iolanthe, after the Gilbert & Sullivan operas....... :roll: They were horrible yappy little dogs as well, proper ankle biters.

We got a new puppy when the children were young. We offered them the chance of deciding on a name for the dog (well, bitch actually).

Unfortunately we had to withdraw the offer when our 12-year-old son insisted that she should be called "Ark Royal".

You do have to be careful what you let your kids choose. My Dad got a new company car every year, he decided to let us kids choose the colours. Big mistake - thanks to me & my sister, he ended up with a very very bright yellow Mk3 Ford Cortina (with black vinyl roof), a hideous orange Marina saloon and a bright purple Marina Coupe, amongst other similar automotive horrors. It was the 70's, I suppose at least we never insisted that he had a brown car, as everyone else seemed to drive back then!

I had a blaze Allegro 1750 Sport, and thought it was quite a nice colour. It was sporty when going in a straight line, although having to double declutch didn't help :lol:. I also had a yellow Mk2 Escort Sport, that I thought was ok too! Did a lot of people really drive brown cars? I had a brown Sierra, that was nicknamed after the product of a bodily function of a similar shape and colour!

She's a British Short Horn / Limousin cross. We're now looking for Welsh girls names beginning with a C.

She's lovely - about 12 hrs old in these photos. Pleased she's a she, so we can breed from her in a couple of years. Disappointed she's not a he though, because we'd have been barbecuing a he in a couple of years instead!
