I am not familiar with the ways of the countryside, but if you do any breeding dont you end up with lots of redundant males? If they are doomed to be slaughtered anyway isn't it better to turn them into a tasty meal?
If you havn't read Hugh F-W's Meat you should. The first half is simply about animal husbandry. It transformed my view of the organic movement and the moral issues associated with being meat eaters.
