Controversially (as many seem to insist on only fat lime inside) a quick 2mm thick skim with an NHL based plaster is pretty DIYable - goes off quicker, and using a fine enough sand any mistakes can be tidied with a scraper / sandpaper
I’ve also found that if you buy it premixed so all you have to do is add water then many “non-heritage” plasterers are keen to have a go, I got a few rooms done that way at a fraction of the cost of “heritage plasterers”
