We haven't measured the pitch but have had a general builder and a specialist roofer round and both said it was too shallow. The builder suggested a method similar to the one above where the final layer of tiles is pretty much decorative. The roofer said that it would look wrong to have a different type of tile up there and suggested the leadwork. I'd be interested to know if anyone has used something similar.
And yes we know about the tile! We've just bought the place after renting it for ages and there are lots of jobs to do. Repairing the roof is first on the list along with sorting out the guttering and drainage. A lot of water comes off that thatch and the neighbouring house is also higher so we have some damp problems in the joining wall - but that's another thread . . .
