I may not have mentioned this before, but I am also a back sufferer (although I never talk about it). The frustration of inactivity may try and force you to restart work before you're really ready for it. I emphatically recommend you not to do so. You'll only suffer worse punishment in years to come.

Still, I've got a second set of industrial strength painkillers from the doctors today and a referral to an osteopath, so hopefully it will get sorted. New painkillers actually seem to do something, so the idea of my 45 minute drive to work doesn't seem out of the question now.
