I'm trying to imagine how much pigment would have been needed to achieve the strength of this blue.

my kitchen has felt the wrath of the hard hand of mess last week.

I know you have explained this before, but from the picture it looks more as if the roof is holding up the round-wood beams rather than vice versa. Since this is a more recent lean-to on the older building, are these beams purely cosmetic (which would be surprising given the dates that you mentioned for the door inscriptions)?

those beams may well be helping to hold the roof up , the tiny ridge plate has badly rotted and 90 percent of the joists have split. the purlin is resting on those beams. i am not sure if the old beams were to hold up a roof structure or tie the exterior wall to the house , or both.
