Malcolm, thanks for the kind words. A 1910 period is the look we are after. I now have a hight tank toilet installed (reproduction) working on a period style porcelain sink (new) and have acquired a claw foot tub cast in 1919. All that and some period appropriate wall paper should do the trick. Oh yes, also have a proper period pan light for the ceiling. Still looking for a period correct wall mounted light for above the sink though.

Upper management will be happy to have a hot soak after almost a year of work. Still haven’t pinned down the wallpaper yet, that seems to be the hardest part of the whole project.

Is your toilet & sink on a landing above another room? Looks like it on the 2nd picture.

I need to get on with our en-suite and bathroom, and we're not even trying to get the period look that you've achieved. With 2 very small rooms though, and 6 people to use them regularly, practicality had to come first. You have the luxury of space!

Feltwell, yes, we have the luxury of two bathrooms and only two people. That allowed me the time frame to do this project with out it turning into a job! I have one of those already. Yes that tub is heavy, four people to get it up the stairs, spent three days doing a cut and polish on the enamel to bring it back. I looked at many tubs until I found this one, the downfall of most of the tubs was rust around the drain and tap holes. This tub had only minimal rust I was able to repair and it not show beyond the echelons.
The sink side straddles the stair well and kitchen pantry. The black forced air vent you see beside the rail comes up from the panty side of the wall. The tub side is over the rear vestibule.

it was suggested by a higher power that I should paint the ugly aluminum storms in an attempt to hide the frame and in fill at the top, not really sure of the resault.

More progress to report, well a little any how.
fpund these two period hall oil lamps for cheap at an antique fair a few weeks ago. They are not realy fancy but are a matched set. They had been electrified at some point so the fonts are missing.

I removed the modification from one and reworked the electrics on the other. Only one of the ceiling medallions has power.

Ceiling medallions - Never heard them called that before, must be a difference between the countries. Ceiling rose over here - medallions makes more sense though!

Feltwell, they call them Roses as well, the term seems to be interchangeable in any conversation, either way people know what your referring to.
Hummmm, a red light in the window, I never thought of that, and the connotation it implies. I will just tell folks a little bit of Amsterdam has arrived in Chatham with the intent to promote multiculturalism of course.

I thought some of you fine folks would like to see our new hall lights lit up. To be honest I wasn’t expecting this effect when I dropped a bulb into the shade but wow.

i installed a 40W LED bulb, the intensity of the light is not much more that the original original oil would have been. So now I’m advertising a brothel as well as a disco.

Wow! I presume that's an LED that is equivalent to a 40W incandescent - LED bulbs here are usually only 6 or 8W.

Yes, they still use the old wattage measurements, every one here knows how bright a 40W incondesent is. This equates to about 450 lumens. But no one knows how bright 450 lumens is. Your 8Watt designation i would guess is the actual electric consumption.

I take it thats a cast iron bath tub then? My claw foot bath is made from the 'modern stuff' and is easily moved if accidentally knocked. I'm surprised they don't come with the ability to screw the feet down, how difficult would that be to engineer. My neighbour has one too and she confirms hers is easily jolted. Still wasn't cheap though! And still not plumbed, my bathroom has taken me forever, on the one hand there''s nothing much complicated about it but on the other I'm going, like you, for something traditional and its been a ball ache at times. The most technical room in the house really.

Lacan, yes, you would think back in The day they would have come up with something to stop the tub from moving. To stop our tub from moving I found glue down porcelain cups, the legs sit in the cup and limit the movement.
