Spot the difference...

There is a HUGE difference between Makita, DeWalt and the Site range, and I am sure Joce will agree with me on this, Makita are a sort of blue, DeWalt predominantly yellow, and the last ones look red ( or maybe a dark pink )!

B&Q did try only a few years ago to do a cordless powertool range for the Ladies - very patronising, they were a lovely pastel lilac colour, were smaller, lighter and therefore less powerful than "normal" cordless tools, they were cheap quality but not cheap to buy.

Funnily enough they didn't sell well.

The point of having things in pink ( or pastel lilac ) is to stop them being borrowed by the boys! doesn't mean we will tolerate feeble versions though.

Didn't work for Mrs F. She bought a tape measure with floral decoration - with the precise intention that I would then be too embarassed to use it and it would remain safely in the drawer, where she knew to find it. I'm not proud however, I don't care if it's a girly tape measure!

Quite - that was a large part of what I meant by it being patronising, not just the colour.

The Site tools seem quite good by the way - I've got one of their angle grinders, after my old one finally expired a few weeks ago.

I'm not sure I can solve your tape measure problem, but I've at last discovered where my odd socks go.

I am sure the "it" will be somewhere near the "scratch". One of the reasons my kitchen and Aga don't work properly is that my friends keep telling me I should make everything from scratch, and I try as I might I havn't found any in the supermarket, not even Waitrose.

This is the one I can always find, but only because Mrs F has it stashed in a kitchen drawer for her "exclusive personal use" (as apparently all her other ones I keep borrowing and losing!! Huh!!! A likely story..... :wink: )

As it is Mrs F's it has a homing instinct - it is truly the homing pigeon of the tape measure world, leave it laying anywhere around the house and it magically returns to its home in the kitchen drawer

However, you will get odd looks as you wander round Jewson's timber shed using it!

My chickens have a red and duck egg blue colour scheme though, on the interior, with the outside of the shed painted in "String" and "Stone White". I couldn't have used that pink and purple, it would have clashed with their feathers and combs horribly.

BTW, for those who don't have me as their FB friend, I'm sure you'll be excited to know my first hatch is due to take place on Friday. I have 20 millefleur sablepoot eggs in the incubator in the top bedroom. Will post pics. The first 24 hours is terribly sweet apparently, they stand dazed in the incy after pecking their way out of those eggs, and concentrate on drying out and fluffing up. You don't need to feed them as the remainder of the yolk is in their tummies for 24 hours. Then they have to go in a brooder, which I still need to construct. It should be round, and steep sided to correspond with the heat lamp placed above -racking my brains as to what I can use. I think I'll need to physically make one out of card.

This means that even female outfits, which are invariably without pockets, can accommodate one.

I've just remembered the early 19th Century hat box I bought in Assisi, decorated with lotus, goldfish, and Greek key design. Perfect.

This means that even female outfits, which are invariably without pockets, can accommodate one.

Some of the beautiful chatelaines had tape measures, either incorporated into one of the other sewing objects or in their own little silver box. I think they were a wonderful solution to the lack of pockets in female attire and not vulnerable to being "borrowed" by boys! Shame we don't use them anymore.

I have a bright yellow tape measure which I bought from Bee and Queue a couple of years ago. When I first brought it out in front of the builders it was christened "Andy's Gay Tape" being a stupid colour, not rubberised nor having a metal case.
Unlike many, many of my other tools which I used alongside the builders which subsequently disappeared or died my "Gay Tape" survived until last week. Measuring out the patio some sand appears to have got wound into the mechanism and now it won't retract properly. Not really an issue when checking the circumference of the circle I'm laying.
I'm considering giving it a ceremonial burial beneath the last slab.

You should definately do that, in a nice tin, wrapped in some newspaper and with a little note or some photos. Just imagine how much fun someone would have in possibly hundreds of years time when they lift the stones to do "something".

Poor Andy. He's sweated blood to lay his circle of slabs for posterity, and now Her Ladyship is suggesting that in just a few hundred years some vandal is going to rip them up again.

I can't imagine how the builders of Stonhenge would have felt if some pessimist had come along, frowned at their newly-finished construction, and said, "Who put that up for you, then? That lintel's gonna fall off in four thousand years, for a start."

From my Civil Engineering days, I can confidently predict that in years to come when they are knocking down certain bridges they will find within the abutments quite a few pens & pencils, at least 3 tape measures and a walkie-talkie. When you're walking around on top of a huge steel reinforcement cage, into which tons and tons of concrete are being poured, if you drop something into it you don't bother to retrieve it!
