Rob- you need to get out of the South. I did, and it's the best thing I've ever done.

When things get too depressing, it is a five minute drive over the river to Hull, where you will soon cheer up after realising that things really could be worse.

And this is the only place I've ever been where you are regularly bargained down. When I bought a second hand table on the market, the kindly saleswoman said "How much do you want to pay duckie?" I said twenty quid would be fine, but a passing bloke shouted "Niver! You'd ha got it for half that!" So we all agreed on £15.

It's so much more entertaining than my previous life of Waitrose and gastropubs.

whats bury st edmonds like then? is it nice? and do you think they would let me paint it before i commit to buying just so i can see it in a different colour?

Bury St Edmunds is one of my mostest favourite towns in the country. It's very beautiful, with a great atmosphere. It's big enough to have all facilities, but small enough still to be friendly.

And in answer to your question, no - I don't think they would allow you to paint it. It's already painted in a variety of attractive colours.

If it went for £134k last year, I would imagine there were several costs incurred over recent months...

Purchase fees (survey/solicitors/mortgage application etc)- £2-3k
Planning costs - £5-10k?
Fencing / site clearance (from the look of the photos) - £1-2k
CoCE - £5-7k

It's fairly easy to make a case for them not having a huge return (although that would seem to be their fault for having overpaid in the first place)
