I think that's a crazy price for a crazy amount of work (admitting nonetheless the hypocrisy of my accusation) and you have had a lucky escape from a house you didn't want to live in anyway.

Desperately in need of proper TLC, I hope (proabably in vain) it won't fall victim to the "good as new" mentality.

not us Gareth , 34k over what i was prepared to punt and 64k over its market value (i had numerous valuations , averaging 70k) but still , someone was either not clued up as to its condition or they really wanted it very badly.

i almost , almost bid 136k but i really had to hold my self back , lovely as it was.

hopefully though the new owner will love it and get lots of pleasure from living there , it really is a lovely friendly village.

you never know though Gareth , we may find something out your way yet and you are still in our list of contacts should we need an agent. :wink:

now i think its time to peel the roof off the land rover and head down to my local for a nice , refreshing cold one.

Oh dear, there's always something, a factory, a house in the back garden, a flood plain, a train, a road. I remember asking estate agents last year if you eliminate these things if you have a budget of say, 1 million, they all said no.

It's just a question of choosing which eyesore or irritation would bug you the least I suppose...I went for the town-in-Britain-most-devoid-of-charm on my doorstep option, it's kind of working for us.

Humans are good at adapting, though they pretend not to be. Good luck with your search, I know you'll find something exquisite eventually.

Houses have been photo-shopped and had interesting colours applied to them on this forum before, I believe Skier-Hughes was something of an expert at it. Personally I think that pink is completely fab, but I can see it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.

Bury St Ed is nice from what I remember, a lot nicer than where I live anyway. Report back, if you visit pinky!

I am now feeling rather silly at having spent way much more than 130k last year, I'm amazed at what you can get this year.

i certainly will report back if i go to view it but to be fair id probably put an offer in without even looking at it twice the way i feel now , we have been searching for a house for almost a year now :shock: , perhaps im just fussy.
the pink is nice on a thatched cottage but by god does it look gay.
house prices are rising again , could be just the time of year but either way it wont last long (cheap houses that is).

if i do get to view this cottage i will certainly take lots of pics for peeps to muse over.

If you don't like pink then Suffolk might not be the best choice for a period cottage as "Suffolk Pink" is a traditional colour, originally made by mixing blood with limewash, and is still widely used (although probably made with other pigments these days).

apparently it was built between 1520 and 1580. its called 'clipper cottage' and is half way down the page. id assume its listed.

Rather amazingly (unless it's changed its name recently) it doesn't appear to be listed.

i did find out some interesting info on dock lane Gareth , i read somewhere on tinternet it did used to be two or three separate units and dock lane was called 'workhouse lane' at one stage. amazing what you can dig up if you go deep enough.

Well, for the house's sake, I think it would be better off if it was listed, for your sake, it depends (though I really would check with the local council, of course). There do seem to be some not overly nice rear extensions which might give a clue to some possibly poor renovation work to the old bit in the past (cementy, vinyly inappropriate materials etc)

it could be a wolf in sheeps clothing then , a pink sheep? id much rather be fixing broken/run down things rather than someone elses bodge jobs.
i think its still worth going to see thougth. id hazard a guess that there might be a timber frame under there somewhere?

But for those with serious money, £40 000 will get you this period property. It has the advantage of having next year's firewood supply screwed to the front, and is also in Barton, at the southern end of the Humber Bridge. When things get too depressing, it is a five minute drive over the river to Hull, where you will soon cheer up after realising that things really could be worse.

if those houses were down here in east sussex they would probably be worth , well , way more than i can afford to pay.
i enquired about a derelict 2 bed house a while back , it was pretty grim and needed knocking down and starting again , it wasnt even nice to look at even if it were rebuilt. it had a smallish garden that needed a fair bit more then a make over and it had no off street parking , is was grim.
they wanted 250k for it and it lasted around 6 weeks before it was snatched up.
now that is depressing.
