I'm over that way very shortly to quote for a job in Hythe so maybe then, happy to pop in for a coffee but no beer for me ta very much, never touch it when I'm working.mm289 said:I see you are in Hastings, we are along the south coast in Kent. If you ever have a job over this way ping me and I would be happy to buy you a beer or a coffee. Might be we need a bit of support with some of the bigger jobs as well so could be a worthwhile conversation.
Note on your web site you did some work on a bread oven, we have a dissused one in the farmhouse that I have toyed with re-instating, wondered what your work was that you did?
Paul.
I've worked on a few bread ovens over the years but the one mentioned on the site was a recreation of a Georgian bread oven that was hidden behind the addition of a later Victorian kitchen.
It's in the yard of the Woodland Centre in Woodchurch next to the Rare Breeds Centre.
I didn't have a digital camera at the time so need to go back and take pics,I built it in 1999.
We were waiting for permission to go ahead with the Yonsea Farm Project so I built it as an experiment while we were waiting.
I tested different lime mortars on it to get the colour and consistency we needed for the whole project.
The project ran out of money just after I quit after two years and as far as I know the original oven is still in bits in a container,it was to go in the final building, the farm house.
The oven I built is about the size of a generous garden shed with it's own slate roof and chimney,I was given no plans or photos for that, just hand made drawings of the original.
The dome of the oven was made using a good ton of sand to form the dome then building the brickwork over it,with the weight on top of the dome the sand was raked out to form the oven, without a pic I can't really explain it but it's quite a piece of work!
Now,the real reason it was built?
The good old clerk of works and yard owner(he lived there and still does last time I was there,he quit a year before I did but owns the land)wanted a pizza oven
Due to the density of all the brickwork we struggled to wait for it to be ready to fire up but we did and I ate a heck of a lot of fresh home made pizza while I was there
