I have seen tiling straight onto floorboards using flexible tile adhesive in a first floor bathroom - didn't look great to me as a method but I have to say that several years later it was still all OK. Providing the owner never wanted to get to the underfloor pipes of course!

Many years ago - too many to count and before I joined this excellent group, I tiled a first floor bathroom floor as above. It is as sound today as it was when I did it and shows no signs of wear. let alone movement. Only after I had done it (and luckily for me) did I notice that all the pipework was boxed in behind the skirting in the same way as has been recommended on another, current post.

A little off the above topic, but thinking about it the best thing I've found to beat the fatigue is audio books. I use audible on my phone and just listen to a novel as I plod away at stuff.

Radio 4 for me, followed by World Service in to the wee small hours as all jobs take longer than I think.

Yes, Radio 4 for me too. A portable radio in the room I'm working and permanent ones in the sitting room/kitchen and garage/workshop so that I don't miss anything while walking around . . . . Well, except for the annoyance of having a mixture of analogue and digital radios so that in one direction I hear a repeat of what I've just heard and in the other direct I completely lose a few seconds.

Yes, Radio 4 for me. A few favourites, such as the News Quiz, are actually a hindrance as I can't do any drilling for fear of missing one of Jeremy Hardy's rants. Otherwise it just burbles away in the background, sometimes there's a great play, sometimes it's dull, but never annoying - unlike the commercial radio we listen to at work!

We're also Radio 4 fanatics, although I do also recommend Radio 4 Extra. Lots of repeats of old comedy stuff that some of you may remember: Round The Horne, Hancock's Half-Hour, The Burkiss Way, The Navy Lark, The Goon Show... etc. etc. (Plus a few real duds, such as Parsley Sidings!)

You'll need a digital radio, of course, or listen on Freeview or the electric interweb.

Ohh dear. I'm clearly far too lowbrow for you lot. Team Rock, or Absolute Radio usually.

I do like Radio 4 and listen to it frequently in the car, but when working on the house or in the garage I often find speech-based programming frustrating as I want to listen to it but I keep interrupting myself with the noise I'm making, especially with power tools! If I'm not careful I end up making no progress on the job in hand as I want to listen. Interrupted listening on music stations doesn't bother me so much. Trouble is the vast majority of them are awful, and my favourite one has stopped transmitting in this area and is only available via t'interweb

Having said that, nothing better than some of the Radio 4 comedy.

We have been at our project for 5 years now, only at weekends, and the pace is so very slow sometimes it is demoralising.

I agree with most of the other posters that taking a break can help.
But as an alternative, ( and something I have found useful, when the list of jobs seems endless) try doing a job completely different, and unrelated to the project, but still a little bit of progress.
I built a dining table out of spare floorboards, as an "enjoyable" job, as opposed to a job that "needed " doing.
It took me a few weeks and was a different challenge, then back to the chores
