It arrived today as promised.
The crossing timbers are in place and the bolts are sitting in a curing epoxy resin stuff, to be tightened tomorrow.

We then start on the footplates and rails.

I was not surprised by the number of people who came to help out :wink:

Though I am such a good considerate member of SPAB, I have decided to have a maintainance day at my house tomorrow, all are welcome to come and have a chat about routine maintainance on bridges :lol:

Not sure that building bridges can accurately be described as maintenance, but I do hope that you will be in the gutter on National Gutters Day? Nov 23rd.

There's no better way to learn about maintainance than to learn about how the original was built, once you've mastered that the maintaining becomes much easier..........

There isn't anything to show your last remark was a joke, like an ! or a but I'll assume that was how it was meant.

Well I am at this moment putting in some practise for national gutters day, in the form of a splendid farmhouse cider made with old apple varieties.

However. I do hope your IKEA kit came with an Allen key of the correct size.

I do have some small experience of IKEA kits...

Luckily it came with a spax driver bit for it's spax screws!

Spax screws - marvellous things. I must have used a couple of thousand on my roof. Not cheap, but so much less damaging than banging in nails.

What's really worrying is that I've been watching Biff's rhubarb video, and I swear I saw something move.

The bridge is......... coming along slowly........ more news later.

Footings are 1.8m x 0.6m x 0.5m

The cross beams a re bolted to this and then the cross beams are held together using long metal threaded bolts and a series of nuts and washers.

These also hold the handrail uprights.

I'll take a picture of progress so far.
