Zebra - I must agree with MdB's dry remark. That sounds incredibly cheap - are you quite sure that price covers all the sawn green oak that you need?

It almost makes me want to buy some just because it seems too good an opportunity to miss.... I'm sure it would come in useful for something :lol:

Ive just bought practically a whole oak tree - kiln dried and cut into rough planks, direct from a mill for £300 or thereabouts. Its ridiculously more than I need but was cheaper than buying a much smaller amount from a merchant. I'm sure I'll find plenty of uses for it in the coming years

My 3m 150mm2 air dried piece cost £108. I'm reluctant to go against what a structual engineer is telling me. Mine was a corner post, which could make a structural difference in quality of specified timber. Softwood was spec'd as good enough for more minor beam replacements.

Reminds me, I need to order some more oak for further repairs myself!!

Nope, I've ordered the whole lot, total length 16.65m, of 60mm x 80mm, for £80ish + VAT. That makes it just over £1000 per m3.

That was the easy bit.....

Well at £1000/m^3, your sole plates would have been £540. Studs depends on length and spacing but a total of £1k sounds reasonable. Zebra's low price simply comes from requiring a far smaller amount of timber.
