I've been largely absent from the forum for the best part of a month, due to the minor technical problem of having no internet connection since we moved house.

However, I have dipped occasionally from my daughter's computer, and have now been back online for a few days.

But here's a funny thing: before I absented myself, I would receive an automatic email notification from Simon whenever anyone added a post to any thread to which I had contributed my usual nonsense. Now, I'm getting hardly any such emails. In fact, I think I've only had two in the past four days. But I know that many more threads than this have been added to.

I've had a look at my profile, and all the correct options seem to be switched on. Does anyone have any ideas why I am being excluded from the usual email traffic? Should I change my deodorant?

But seriously, I've heard of this preferential notifying treatment before, and I would like to be known that I have never received any such emails. I only get an email if I receive a private message.

Not only that Joce, but we had to endure posts on the topics "chicken shed decorating", "Interesting spoons from Beacon Cottage", and "Vacationing Mice" :lol:

And don't get me started on the 2 separate posts on the great pamments schism - robgil and Pford75 taking opposite sides and representing the "Real Pamments" and "Continuity (Norfolk) Pamments"

I'm actually very grateful for the pamment advice. I cleaned them, I've done a linseed oil coat and will soon be testing some wax before making a decision on the top coat.

Seriosuly though, welcome back...how is 'the house that is not a project' coming on?

Thanks for that, Biff. Actually my preferences were already set as you suggest - which is the puzzling thing. However, I have unset, then reset that particular one, and applied a couple of drops of WD40, so let's see how it goes.

At present the only available views of this house are dominated by stacks of cardboard boxes. But we are finding a variety of uses for them: one to keep your clothes in, one to sleep in, one for a dog kennel...etc.

The bathing experiments weren't a success.

I will post some pictures when I can get a few that aren't entirely embarrassing.

This was discussed a little while ago, when someone else mentioned it and I registered for replies to that post and never got any. I think it may be a board wide problem that needs rectifying in the premissions by Simon.

apparently wd40 was never meant to be a penetrating oil in the first place. most of the mechanics i know use duck oil , supposed to be much much better.

I ran out of WD40 just when I needed some many years ago, on a Sunday before the days of Sunday shopping. So I made a mix of about 90% diesel and 10% engine oil, and it worked a treat to free off rusted nuts and bolts. I still use it these days.

There are topics that I have visited and added to several times, without getting an email when others add to them. It's a puzzle.
