Anyway, the concept of a linear "thread" is something of a misnomer on PPUK. The phrase "plate of spaghetti" seems somehow more apposite - more convoluted, but much more tasty (particularly with a bit of added sauce).

Can of wood worms if you ask me mate.

My builder insisted on spraying the roof timbers with Kingfisher (?) pesticide when the roof was stripped. I wasn't keen but was caught at a weak moment and agreed. Cue one of the lads wandering around with a garden weed sprayer dousing the timbers - he declined my offer of gloves, mask or goggles. As the roof timbers are encased in insulation top and bottom it was almost certainly pointless and unnecessary - it was also very cheap. The container had a 'guaranty' on it which may or may not be worth anything but as the container disappeared (probably into a skip) I doubt I'll be able to claim.

I wouldn't spray anything you come into direct contact with - if you want "peace of mind" about roof timbers then you might consider it but in retrospect I wouldn't bother.

Possibly to conceal the fact that it contained 90% water, plus a bit of white spirit to give it a convincing odour?

Ah yes, that famous Polish woodworm treatment. Mostly cabbage water I should think - hence the laissez-faire approach of said lad.

Has any one tried Borax as a treatment. Cheap and non-toxic to us higher life forms.

Ive treated some oak paneling with a borax solution, but also got it dried out. No sign of more activity yet.

I'm afraid I've never tried it, although I understand that it leaves the woodworm without any facial expression whatsoever.

More seriously, whilst I sincerely hope that agbagb has solved the problem at hand, I suspect the general view in these here parts is that drying out the afflicted wood is its real saviour.
