Presumably the Legionella issue is avoided if you go for a mains pressure hot water system heated by a manifold on the accumulator tank and would allow you to do away with the need to periodically heat to a higher temperature?

I don't think this counts as Fred Drift, but has everyone heard the Legionella warnings about commercial bags of compost? A small number of people are recently reported to have contracted the disease from compost. So the advice is never to open a bag in a confined space - do it outdoors.

I've no idea whether this is a storm in a teacup, but perhaps worth mentioning.

I'm not so sure. The thread topic is 'wood pellet boilers' but it seems we've mostly discussed heat pumps and legionella. Does that restore Fred Drift's honour?

True. The water in the accumulator tank may well become infested with legions of Legionella, but there is no direct contact between this and the water which enters your house.
