if you visit a website and it claims that you have a virus, do NOT under any circumstances install any software they suggest. The message is fake and the software is the virus.

Well said - a message that can never be repeated too often.

It may also be worth mentioning the current round of phishing emails - those that purport to come from HM Revenue and Customs and inform you that you have a tax rebate. They're all scams - cast them into outer darkness.

Whenever I read exchanges like this I want to embrace my Mac.

My Son has just sold his, nothing but trouble and was £ for £ not as good value as a pc. A useful foray for him, but costly for me. Although all his work is in digital media manipulation a new i7 pc is far better value for us and works far quicker than any Mac.

Plus it's easier for the two of us to share files.

It's all down to horses for courses and we could argue all day about the benefits of all 3 variants.
