wasn't that the generally accepted "scientific" explanation of where the wind comes from a couple of hundred years ago?
Indeed it was.
Now we know better.
It is the turning of the Earth that pushes the trees into the air that causes the wind.
Proof of this can be seen quite clearly in a strong wind as many of the trees are bent back with the force they are exerting.
Some trees work so hard that they are uprooted.
Have you ever noticed that once trees are uprooted the wind eventually dies down?
Further proof surely?
Lime said:The centripetal force, as you may know, is also the force that causes flowers to grow towards the tops of plants.
Hence the name centripetal.
Centifugal, on the otherhand, is the force which causes an imitative polyphonic composition in which a theme or themes are stated successively in all of the voices of the contrapuntal structure.
Hence the Ooohs and Aaahs of a child on a garden swing resisting the centripetal force and at the same time enjoying the centrifugal.
Do we infer from the italics that it's your normal practice to drink other people's? I bet they love you, down the pub.Gareth Hughes said:I'm just off to the moon for some cheese to go with my wine.
