Yes, it's always good to hear how things worked out. I know what you mean about tempting fate, but 'several months' is certainly the right sort of timescale to see the effects of damp-relieving works and from what you've described I'd say you deserve to be quietly confident. Plus, it's always pleasing to hear of a house saved from the silicone injectors! This is also the time of year when doors and windows can be left open all day to really ventilate all rooms and help the property adjust to its new equilibrium. Onwards and upwards!

It seems so embarrassingly obvious in retrospect that a broken roof makes for a damp room! But it didn't seem that way when there were so many potential problems. And also clearly not obvious to our surveyor who told us the flashing was cracked and separately told us the room had a rising damp problem.
Anyway, very appreciative of all the good advice I got here.

He might be right, but the frustrating bit is when they then say the "fix" is to inject silicone into the walls, strip all the internal plaster back to 1m high and render in a waterproof cement render - doesn't take a genius to work out that is just locking the damp in, plus the render is a sod to remove for anyone in the future that does want to fix it properly! Usually the true fix is fairly simple, such as lowering external ground levels, removing render that is bridging the damp proof course or repairing cracked render.

I do hate it though that so many old houses, brick built, get to a stage where they need repointing but instead the owner renders the whole outside.
