Is it hollow? My first thought was for glass blowing but looks a bit too big for it, is it something to do with molten metal?

You are much warmer now. Nothing to do with molten metal more to do with what heats the metal?? I've posted a full length view of it above, and yes it is hollow all the way through.................

Ah we'll you've got me then, presumably something for a furnace, does It turn round like a driveshaft to power bellows or something maybe?

It's a fire tube or pipe used while sitting near the fire to blow through into the embers to start a flame. Using this tube meant you didn't have to get near the fire, blowing on it and getting covered in soot, dust and hot embers........

That was meant to be a hard one.

Never knew such a thing existed but it makes sense. Quite a beefy piece of equipment considering, is it just for domestic fires?

Yes, as far as I know and you can see how useful it would be in an inglenook fire. The two prongs at one end keep it off the floor and the hook on the other is for hanging it up near the fireplace
