To be honest I decided it was unlikely he'd left the old boys remains and the roots of the Yew tree were rather close to the surface. He did however leave the cats corpse under a rather tasteless terra cotta feline up in the copse - a local fox did that exhumation job for me.

While clearing the debris on the wall tops under the rafters in our old school we found this scrunched up page torn from a maths book …. those of us who are of a certain age should be able to work out why it ended up there…..

Redecorated the back room during lockdown. Didn't like the peach colour of the wallpaper.
Stripped it and found this behind..
Suddenly felt guilty, but on the flip side I guess a redecorate every 100 years isn't bad going?
Struggling to figure out the name. Best I've come up with is "This paper was hung by Ernest Poult June 8 1913"?

I love your ‘graffiti’ … frame the photo, a sample of the wallpaper and a few words to tell the story.

Our found maths work will be framed in double sided glass.. doubtless some expensive glass to protect from light fade!

Found mentions of our house, one in a local history book , There are two timber framed houses in the road still standing, the other was a farm store until the early 1900s. The other book is the latest Pevsner.Flyfisher

Our house has a tenuous royal connection, though not too far into the past. The son of a previous owner was private secretary to the Queen and the grandson was private secretary to Prince Charles and, later, Princess Diana. The latter was not a happy time and he subsequently resigned his position, causing a bit of a stir.
I wrote to the grandson when I was researching the history of the house and we exchanged numerous letters before he kindly invited me to his 'set' in Albany, Picadilly, London, (an interesting experience in itself) to view and scan a number of photographs of the house from the 1930-1950s. He vividly remembered visiting and playing around the house as a child.
He had no children and died a few years ago and I now wish I had asked him if I could make a copy of the entire visitor's book for the house, but it seemed too presumptious at the time. A pity really as it would have been an interesting historical record but is now probably lost forever.
