It's a fair assumption, but no, the "workings" protude slightly out of the back of the pattress.

Perhaps slightly late (1830s) but about the right status (coming from the Kitchen Garden corner pavilion, rather than the main house) this has a delightful simplicity and beauty if you ignore the blue paint.

Old thread resurrection..... You lot made me feel guilty about not having finished this job!! :lol:

Fed up of working on daughter's bedroom yesterday, so decided to take a day out and do this job finally..... Managed to run the wiring round within a hollow of the doorframe with lots of jiggery pokery (always be careful when combining your jiggery with your pokery.....) with the aid of my set of cable draw rods - a tool which definitely features highly on my list of indispensable things:-

So wiring inside the porch is completely hidden and I didn't have to wreck the decoration in the process.

Clear evidence of where the bellpush used to be:-

New bell push in place - please ignore desperately shabby door & frame, and bad cement pointing, yet more jobs to do.... :roll: :-

Give it a year or two to weather in and I reckon it will look just fine.

Not only that but the screw is at least a millimeter higher in relation to the pointing.

Typically the push only worked intermittently at first, as when the manufaturer had "aged" the brass they also "aged" the contacts in the switch..... :roll:

It is a bit odd that, seeing as how the finish of the rest of it is very good. Still, at £10 rather than up to £50 + VAT that I've seen elsewhere, I'll live with it!

I've always admired your ability to see sophisticated humour in any situation, FW.

You haven't been using the public footpaths around our village, have you? One of the signs has been carefully altered, using some white paint and a black felt-tip pen*. It now reads "Pub ic Poo path". :roll:



*As you may have inferred, there isn't much else for the local youth to do around here.

Ha ha! Some wag near us has been round all the brown tourism signs pointing to the Canal Musem at Stoke Bruerne, overpainting the "C". (it's actually quite an interesting museum...) :lol: I also heard somewhere that the signs for a place called Burton Moor had been altered to read "Button Moon" which is so sweet!
