It's quite clear to me, Penners, what is wrong. The Plumbing Gods are displeased for some reason, and you must make a sacrifice. Take your nicest newest tool, and destroy it utterly. Then your shower will no longer leak.

I asked about the wood because when our bathroom extension was built onto our previous house, the plumber supported the shower tray on two pieces of (new) wood. In time these became old wood and shrank, breaking the silicone seal twixt tray and tiles. The water got in, wetted the wood which of course swelled. Then I noticed the leak, and renewed the silicone, so eventually the wood shrank again, and da capo.

After at least three iterations, I deduced what was going on.
By this time not only the supports but also the wood floor were well wet.

Fortunately there was a tiled panel at the foot of the tray, abut 5" high, I pulled it off, and beneath the tray I inserted four supports.
At the front, screwed plastic adjustable legs such as one finds beneath kitchen units, but stronger. Can't remember where I bought them.
At the back, couldn't reach to insert the legs, so I used two car scissor jacks.

All these supports I carefully set to exert a small upwards pressure. Especially careful adjusting the car jacks. Then, as the wood shrank, the tray remained firmly pressed against the tile, no more leaks. Being on a wet wood floor, I had to readjust the supports several times, which I presume you with your solid floor wouldn't need to do.

Quite a palaver.

Thanks for the thought, Ivor, but I installed this shower and tray myself, so it is, of course, faultless! That ludicrous claim aside, I know that it's on adjustable plastic legs which won't shrink.
