What style lighting in kitchen?

Refurbished antique lighting. We bought some gorgeous solid brass Japanese naval lights for our bathroom!

I love the Skinflint site, great for inspiration but I every time I look my jaw drops at the prices.

at a salvo fair last year for £35, I was told it came from the workshops at Kings Cross Station. I even managed to get an Identical ceiling hook on ebay for £2.50.

I've recently bought a pre 1950's caged inspection lamp with an oak handle that I'm going to use as kitchen light.
Even with a new cord, holder, bulb and hook it will be less than £50.

For sure, they're very expensive. But if you haven't got the time to source and recondition your own....

Its not quite type of lighting Original Poster was looking for, but since I've recently been to look at these old style spotlights in rather well known shop chain, just thought I'd add to suggestions above. The price is pretty cheap, but they have a nice finish in my opinion (unlike some of the other lights that were on display next to them...)

They have the 3-on-a-plate type variants aswell. All GU10 fitting, could fit LED replacements, good for future etc

I agree with you c r, those are very suitable, and very affordable too. I spotted some other fittings for the living room in that same well-known chain of stores, which are similarly cheap but nice enough.
I know some of you think that light fittings are important and make a big difference to a room so would spend £100 on a light, but I would rather spend my money on things that I don't want people to change in the future, such as lime plaster and breathable paints, whereas I don't mind if someone changes the light fittings in the future, so don't want to spend so much on them.

I put an LED bulb into the pendant in my study, and from underneath, on or off, you wouldn't know it isn't a conventional frosted 60 watt filament bulb. It's actually 10 watts. The shade it's in doesn't show the side of it, which does look a bit different. It's certainly a lot less offensive to the eye than those hideous compact fluorescent things.

At the time, the particular ones I got were £5 each, but prices for the same version were anything up to £11 each on the net. I've tried a few types, and some of the cheap ones are pretty ugly, and the light from some is a very odd colour, with a lot of purple in it.

I've got another, smaller (3 watt) one in an anglepoise and it's excellent.
