I've also made such joints and Have found it's mostly a matter of having enough confidence to avoid applying too much solder.
A neat ring of solder is fairly easy to achieve around the end of the joint but I'm always a bit concerned that it might be too thin to be durable. Consequently, I find it hard to resist adding just a bit more solder (or more usually, just a bit too much) and end up with the tell-tale 'teardrop' of solder of the amateur plumber.
At least Yorkshire fittings already have the correct amount of solder for a reliable joint.

Same for me! Took a while to not have the teardrops! I still use Yorkshires if they're not on view.
I was quite proud of the first end feed one I got just right, which was under a floor. Screwed the floorboards back down, turned on the water, and a stain starts to appear on the ceiling below.
I'd added an extra screw to hold the floorboard down, and yes, in my rush I'd screwed straight through the pipe. What a pro eh??? :roll:

I was once plastering a ceiling when I got a slight shock through the metal part of my trowel.
I found that, when I was laying a T&G floor in the room above, I had put a nail through an electric cable. The current had travelled through the nail into the wooden joist, through the plasterboard and thence into the wet plaster on its underside.

When we had the extension built on our previous house, I went to see a couple of jobs put up as 'references' by prospective builders.
One was condemned for wonky brickwork without even exiting the car, the other was in the running until opening an airing cupboard was confronted by a spaghetti of wiring, and pipework with Niagaras of solder.
Yes, it is tempting to add a little more. But if not enough become too much, one can always file it off carefully, and no one will ever know.
