Rather than drag a worthy thread off-topic, I thought I'd go for an unashamedly off-topic thread in it's entirety in honour of a glorious autumnal day.

I really love this time of year!

It's been lovely in Oxfordshire too - I spent 2 hours raking leaves from the croquet lawn... (not mine obviously - it's where I volunteer for the NT).

Yes, it was beautiful today and I'm grateful for it. I've just got back from collecting 35 cubic feet of 2" and 1" quarter sawn English Oak for various projects around the house and it was made even more exciting by the fact that we didn't get rained on either loading or unloading!! It's now all stacked up waiting to be ripped down next week...then the fun can start After all the knocking down and putting back together we've done on our house, it's nice to be doing the 'final' bits at last

Whereabouts in Oxfordshire (you don't have to be too specific if you don't want to)? We used to live between Chipping Norton and Bloxham.

We're almost in Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire - not really Cotswolds but the building stone is.

I can't even have a drink until much later as I'm driving to my son's for dinner (and he's a policeman!!)

But I haven't really noticed if today's been glorious outside or not - but what certainly is glorious is that I've just finished stripping all the urine-stained, begrimed, foul and filthy 200 year old paint off the toilet door. I don't care if Mr Hughes disapproves of stripping, that paint made me feel sick to my core and it has gone.

And mmm, the lovely smell of burnt off paint throughout the house.

I agree that it is a glorious day out there - it's just that for me it is probably somewhere the other side of the thick damp fog that has enveloped everything.

Oh well - a (very) rare night out awaits. I'm likely to dine on mussels (or possibly a nice carpaccio) followed I think by pink calves liver. Not sure what it'll be washed down with - but I'm intending to end the evening dancing in a latin bar after a couple of mojitos!

Stuck at work all day with eccentric arrogant posh MD driving me slowly beserk. He doesn't do the image of Old Etonians any favours at all. Office unbearably hot, can't open window as it absolutely stinks outside - really really unpleasant. Lots of muck-spreading going on in the fields near to the industrial estate where I work, but everyone says the smell is a bit chemical rather than just the normal countryside muck spreading aroma.

However - it's now the weekend, forecast is good, and Feltwell Towers is in a stink-free zone.

i napped and chilled today , loads of work on this week end and lots of sleep to catch up on. This baby business is really hard work! No nights out for me , if i cannot persuade ms robgil to watch a film or two tonight its a few swift ones and getting on with the living room.

Liver was orf - so mussels with pesto cream sauce, steak (boring but nice) and Eton mess, washed down with Prosecco and then something Chilean and pretty non-descript.

Friday was a good day here too. We finally completed on the purchase of a garage to go with our house. It was the one thing we didn't like about the place we bought last year, no garage Those pesky Georgians hadn't anticipated what the sedan chair and carriage were going to evolve into and so there was no dedicated place for the car incorporated into the property. Over the years various mews and bits of garden in the city have had been turned into garages though and trade separately sometimes. Unfortunately a lot were built when vehicles were quite a bit smaller and restrict you to a very tiny car.I found one for sale back in February that was large enough for an X5 or more, but there were some complications and delays and so it only just got done. It has made His Lordship very happy, he isn't fond of small cars, although grew to love the Fiat Punto we had to have on our last visit to Italy ( it wasn't what we booked, but they had run out and it was that or cancel all the holiday plans ). I caught him checking the specs on the Bentley website the other day, but I couldn't see what it did that the Punto didn't, except cost a lot more money. He muttered something about Sainsbugs carriers versus expensive handbags but frankly I couldn't understand the point he was trying to make.
